MCP server
Web search for
your AI agent.
PacketStream’s remote MCP server gives your agent two tools: live Google search and web page reading as Markdown. It works in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients. $0.0025 per successful tool call.
Two tools
Find pages, then read them.
Live Google search
Runs one Google search and returns the results as Markdown, with the JSON response as structured content. The agent can search the web, news, shopping, places, autocomplete, Google Scholar or AI Mode, from any country. It takes the Search API parameters.
Read any public page
Reads one public web page and returns its main content as Markdown. Page text arrives between <<<PAGE CONTENT: untrusted>>> markers, so the agent treats it as data, not instructions. It reads static HTML and does not run JavaScript.
Two ways to connect
With an API key
For clients that let you set a request header, such as Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code, Cline, Gemini CLI and Zed. Use this server URL and send your key in an Authorization: Bearer header:
https://api.packetstream.io/v1/mcpIn Claude Code, run this in a terminal and add the export line to your shell profile:
export PACKETSTREAM_API_KEY="YOUR_API_KEY"
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user packetstream https://api.packetstream.io/v1/mcp \
--header 'Authorization: Bearer ${PACKETSTREAM_API_KEY}'
claude mcp listCreate the key on the MCP page of your dashboard. It is shown once, and the same key works for the Search API and the Fetch API.
By signing in
For apps that cannot send a key, such as a Claude custom connector. Add this server URL to the app:
https://api.packetstream.io/v1/mcp/oauthThe app opens a PacketStream sign-in page. Log in with your customer account and allow access. The app then calls the tools without a key, and its successful calls are charged to your balance. You can connect up to 20 apps. See sign-in steps.
To disconnect an app, open Connected apps on the MCP page of your dashboard and choose Disconnect. It stops working at once. Removing PacketStream inside Claude did not end its access when we checked, and other apps may behave the same way. Rotating your API key does not disconnect apps. See disconnect a signed-in app.

What it costs
- Each successful
packetstream_searchorpacketstream_fetchcall costs $0.0025, which is $2.50 per 1,000. - Failed calls are free. A call without a valid key or sign-in is never billed.
- Connecting and listing the tools is free.
- Calls draw from your prepaid PacketStream balance, the same balance as proxy bandwidth. There is no subscription; the minimum purchase is $50.
- Each key, and each signed-in app, can make 20 requests per second, with bursts of 200.
The server asks agents to use these tools for every web search and page fetch, so an agent can call them many times in one task. Use your client’s tool-approval settings to control spend.
Questions
Why use this instead of my agent’s built-in web tools?
You get Google results from the country you choose, as clean Markdown or JSON, and page reading in the same server. Searches and fetches run through PacketStream, and you pay only for calls that succeed.
Does it read robots.txt?
No. You decide which sites your agent reads, and you need any permission that the law, a contract or the site operator requires. See section 7 of our Terms of Service.
Do you store what my agent searches?
No. We record each request’s ID, outcome, latency and charge for billing and support. We do not store query text, URLs or page content.
Can I call the same tools from my own code?
Yes. packetstream_search is the Search API and packetstream_fetch is the Fetch API. Both are plain HTTPS endpoints that use the same key.
