Proxy bandwidth
calculator.
Estimate how many GB a scraping job sends through the proxy each month, and what it costs at $1/GB. Everything runs in your browser.
How the estimate works
The calculator multiplies five numbers:
GB per month = pages per month
× data per page (KB)
× requests per page
× (1 + retries)
× (1 + safety margin)
÷ 1,000,000Cost is the GB total at $1.00 per GB. Rotating and sticky sessions cost the same, and country targeting does not change the price.
Measure your page size
Page size moves the result more than anything else, so measure it. Don't guess. Product pages, search pages and error pages can differ a lot, so test a few of each.
HTTP client. cURL can report the request and response sizes, including headers:
curl --silent --show-error --output /dev/null \
--write-out '%{size_request} %{size_upload} %{size_header} %{size_download}\n' \
--proxy 'https://proxy.packetstream.io:31111' \
--proxy-user 'USER:AUTH_KEY' \
'https://example.com/public-page'Add the four numbers and divide by 1,000 to get KB. The gateway also counts connection setup, such as the TLS handshake, which cURL does not show. For small pages that can be several KB per new connection, so check your dashboard after a short test run and adjust the page size.
Browser. Open the browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, load the page and read the total transferred at the bottom. Headless browsers in Playwright or Puppeteer load the same resources unless you block them.
Ways to use less bandwidth
- Fetch the HTML or the site's public JSON with an HTTP client when you don't need a browser.
- In a browser, block images, video and fonts your parser doesn't use. Check that the data still loads.
- Remove duplicate URLs before you fetch them.
- Stop retrying on errors that won't change, such as 401, 403 and 404.
- Ask for compressed responses, and check that your client decodes them.
